Letter: Another Perspective on Rhodes' Firing
Dear Mark:
Your comments [in the Mark's View opinion on the Ray
Rhodes firing] are thoughtful.
Yet, be careful in seeing the issue as a "golden chute" for Ray Rhodes and not
the same in other occupational niches for Mr. and Mrs. Anybody.
If the letter from Rainbow/PUSH is not clear I feel
they were trying to point out that African Americans get few opportunities at the head
coach level in the NFL and after one season in Green Bay the coach is sacked. Is is
fair? Maybe.
But, in the annual re-cycling of NFL head coaches many, many white coaches with inferior
records get hired over and over and over again.
A little more perspective would have helped.
